A seller from Serbia http://tinyurl.com/q4gdnv5

but he is not alone.

Two clan members offer fakes from the same source of supply

Between authentic bronze artefacts (mostly rings) he sells good made silver ring forgeries. We strongly recommend this topic http://ancientartifakes.net/smf/index.php/topic,1100.0.html

It takes a relative trained eye to detect the engravings/rings as fakes.

The Romans engraved with hand-carving tools (punches). With the help of carving tools blow is set next to blow up to continuous lines, dotted lines or simple ornamental motifs were realized in constant repetition. It can be seen mostly where the punch was restarted again.

The jeweler usually uses a graver, which is a tool that has a sharp chisel at the end to produce deep and bright cuts. More modern, faster and more accurate, are laser engravings, of which are not as deep as the hand engraving and abrade quickly.

I have combined these three sellers. All three come from the former Yugoslavia. All three try to specify the location differently.
On the territory of the former Yugoslavia, which was slightly smaller than the old Federal Republic of Germany, seven states have formed since 1991: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia.

aca_numismatics = Europe Yugoslavia
master-numismatics = Europe, Serbia
markovicenza = Serbia

one have to know that sometimes the former provinces are separated by a road only.I think these three sellers form a "group of companies" or belong to a clan with the same dubious intentions to ................. sell well-made fakes as real things.

Pls. refer also to the threads and interesting pics from his branches, family clan members or likely Maffia collegues :-)

As already mentioned, all the silver and gold rings and now the seal have the same surface. There are fine blasting equipment with which you can edit, inter alia, the surfaces of metal and stone objects. Depending on the used medium (coarse sand grains, ruby grains, etc.), the surfaces look different. The drawback to this method is that the surfaces are roughened evenly.

The engravings are surely from the same hand.

It's really incredible. All rings artificially made to look old with the same surface. Constantly repeating wing engraving variations.

And between now and then a real piece (but then most with fake engraving)

One of the most successful sales strategies for fakes is used skillfully by the troika from the former Yugoslavia ............ to mix many fakes among some genuine items.

Works just fine, as you can see. Every good or bad fake is bought without hesitation.

Not one ebay buyer wonders that suddenly lots of allegedly genuine Roman silver and gold rings are coming from a country that has strict export bans for its Roman cultural heritage. Actually, you only need to count 2 and 2 together to know that most items can only be fakes. Here the export ban, of course, does not apply.

PS. the "bee" joke has been sold for US $213,50

These rings with protruding shoulders seem to associate the buyers that they need to be absolutely real. Otherwise I can the sudden run on these rings not imagine.

They were ignored for years and were both real and fake hard to sell. Now inundate Legion rings from the Balkans the market, and not a buyer notices fraud. Once the word Legion ring appears, the mind is automatically switched off

SPQR is popular for fakes. For years, the SPQR fakes ghosts through ebay. :-)
I am not quite clear as well, why should a Legion ring SPQR has engraved. Senatus Populusque Romanus (Senate and People of Rome) was the emblem of the Roman Republic, but which ended in 27 BC.

By the way, we have never come across a  genuine SPQR Roman ring.

If the Gold Legion ring would be really genuine, it would have belonged a high-ranking officer of the Roman army and subject to a strict export ban on ancient heritage of Serbia.
Of course, this does not apply to fakes. Since one can also start with a low starting price. Bidders are totally uncritically at Legion rings and certainly be brainless forfeited a Legion ring of gold .

Interesting bid history for the silver fake ..35 bids but only 3 bidders and there are more than 2 days remaining. Shill bidding?? or simply a few fools who push up the price by their bids

The sales of this gold fake ring raises questions. One hour after a successful sale has the same ring sold again, but more expensive.

Since there are many possible explanations
- The buyer has noticed in time that the ring is a fake
- The seller has sold the ring again. Since the rings come from a local fake production that should be no problem to copy it again
- shill bidding went wrong (quite likely)

Anyway, the second buyer would rather have this fake left.

Second buyer was ebay seller "broncka". He removed the auction after fake info and item test. The negative feedback for this purchase we could only get from the buyer ebay account because markovicenza has switched his feedback privately, they are therefore no longer be viewed.

ancient-lord aca markovicenza has overcome the shock. The negative feedback of the buyer of the gold fake was removed.
Now may also be sold with this account again lots of fakes.

The scam of the quartet is transparent. The master usually sells gold rings, his other ID's are responsible for the rest. Old rings jazzed up with engravings, Legion rings wherever you look, silver fakes with or without gems. And ebay watches, rubbing its hands and earned at every fake (Is that not aid for fraud?).

As long as the buyers believe they can buy valuable ancient treasures at a bargain price on ebay, the fraud is booming with fakes. One thing is certain, ebay auctionen with a starting price of $ 0.99 for valuable genuine artifacts are highly likely fakes.

Logical conclusion. If two countries such as Bulgaria and Serbia (previously Yugoslavia) are offering unusual number of gold and silver rings in always different shapes and engravings, this can only come from their own counterfeit workshop. The same goes for coins and other artifacts.

If suddenly all bronze rings have clearly visible engravings, indicates this to a "reworking".

This globally operating fake seller must feel very safe and invulnerable. For the Augustus silver / gold forgery (ancient_numismatics) practically the front side of the same coin as for the Minerva counterfeit was cast.

Beautiful gold ring - but also real? Or was here copied skillfully a similar silver ring, which was sold some time ago. Very improbable, that suddenly a nearly identical cameo was found in a similar ring (this time of gold). And if this ring also comes still from the fake triangle in Eastern Europe, caution is advised.

We lost many articles, pictures and comments by the collapse of our forum. But the fake sellers are hard-working, fast money is a strong motivation and also completely risk-free thanks to ebay's business policy.

A positive side effect, when one sees the fake yield juxtaposed, one gets only an idea about the enormous quantity brought on the market thanks ebay.

Let's begin with the "fake of the month" an eid mar silver ring. ....and finish with same ring, the buyer tries now the second time to resell.

Impressive gold ring.... what an unique ancient heritage for sale on ebay.

As always without export licence delivered directly from the Serbian excavation site to the interested collector. The Serbian customs certainly expresses a blind eye.

Or should this piece of Constantine's son be a fake? Then, of course, an export licence is not needed.

The Serbian headquarter (counterfeiting workshop) now distributes bulks of silver, gold, and bronze fakes over middlemen from the USA and the UK. The Serbian fakes are about to conquer the eBay market. I believe that hardly a buyer knows what a genuine ring looks like. This absurd bargain-hunting destroys the market for really genuine artifacts and fills the pockets of the fake seller.

Soon no collector of antique jewelery will know how real genuine items look. Since years the Serbs and Bulgarians have flooded the market with fakes, so that the counterfeits are regarded as genuine by ebay buyers.

"O dear look what a nice Roman ring I bought on ebay. It was a real bargain - cheaper than a modern thing from today" So or similar could be the conversation between ebay-fake-collectors.

Whence the ever-changing engravings come, I can explain. The forger copy from coins. And of these there are really enough :-)

The remaining rest they find in auctions catalogues, from other ebay-sellers or museums.

As to the spintria:

There are experts who know exactly what the function of these objects was: they were bought at the brothel's entrance. The representations had to be regarded as a kind of catalogue of pleasures on offer in that particular brothel. After choosing a position one went into the chamber whose number the token's reverse stated and the beauties - which mostly came from exotic countries - were instantly informed about their customers' desire.

Excerpt from http://www.coinsweekly.com/en/Archive/8?&id=9&type=a
We, too, know objects whose representation can vary but whose value remain the same. I am referring to playing cards. The spintriae may well have had a similar function - as tokens in a game whose rules are unknown to us.
In early Imperial Rome, the act wasn't declared a taboo. Although Augustus went to great lengths to restore the old customs of the forefathers, he failed - even in his own family. Hence, these images were part of everyday life, also suitable to decorate objects of utility such as tokens of a game, the wall of a villa or oil lamps. Private companies manufactured these tokens and distributed them - as they later did with the contorniates.
And the moral of the story is? Nothing is as dirty as what the viewer's dirty imagination turns it into.

This scam went wrong. Gold fake offered as a grave related item? Ebay did actually react once and closed the auction. It happened even signs and wonders

the Serbian fake sellers are currently pretty covered. Little fakes are offered. Not surprising. The market is saturated with fakes. The Bulgarians are offering masses of counterfeits and, above all, the new generation of naive bargain hunters must first regrow.

Euphoric feedback for a fake.  One of the reasons why the scammers on ebay are so successful. Hardly any buyer notices that he spent his money on worthless counterfeits.
