Hi, new to this forum so may get a few things wrong.
Unfortunately bid on this ring before knowing the controversy surrounding apollo art auctions, and I'm wondering if this is legit?
The description says 50AD to 200 AD, no clear provenance, however it notes "previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz" along with scans of a document (attached) that is signed by "Jack". I was able to verify this ring as item no.81 in the provided document. Any thoughts welcome!
Edit: I checked the fake ring database on this site, saw nothing similar. Also referenced the style of ring with "Ancient rings, an illustrated collectors guide" by T.N. Pollo. From what I saw, the style of ring and age provided matches with what I see in the book.
Idiotic for me to bid without searching up the auction house beforehand, yes I know :(
Absolutely nothing anywhere in these two dimensional photos that SHOULD lead anyone to believe the ring is genuine. If this is their best evidence, suggest you not take the bait. Just my two cents.

Good news, I have received an email reply from Dr. Ogden and he has confirmed that the document was indeed genuine. No confirmation of the ring as I had only written to enquire about the document. Many of the rings have appeared on the auction, and I would say the likelihood of a very similar fake appearing is low.
Is it possible for it to still be fake? Definitely. But it is good enough for me :)
Good news indeed. As I had written previously, I could not see anything wrong with it!
Maybe what "pastlives" meant was that the evidence offered was not sufficient but that the ring itself could be OK?
